Ode to Oscar

“Fashion is a trend, style lives within a person.” I’d like to dedicate this post to pay homage to one of my favorite designers, Oscar de la Renta. It breaks my heart to see one of the most iconic artists of our time leave us, but he left an unforgettable mark on the world on in my heart! This man made more women feel beautiful than their husband’s did, solely by dressing them in one of his incredible creations. Last June, Oscar told the audience at the “Fashion Talks” series “The only realities in life are that you are born, and that you die. We always think we are going to live forever. The dying aspect we will never accept. The one thing about having this kind of warning is how you appreciate every single day of life.” He lead a life that many dream of and only few accomplish and left a huge stamp on the fashion world. To get to the top, Oscar did everything right. He moved to Paris to jump start his career and was immediately offered a job with Lanvin. After two years of establishing his own style and learning to tailor, Oscar moved to New York to become a designer for Elizabeth Arden. His brand was launched in 1965 and the face of fashion was instantly changed!Responsible for the use of pantsuits on women and countless other trends, Oscar changed the game. Oscar’s last line, the Spring 2015 collection, was put on stage just last week and surely didn’t disappoint. He never stopped until the day he died, October 20, 2014. Last week, the appointment of the new creative designer for Oscar’s brand was announced. I’m putting way too much faith in Peter Copping… Oscar set the bar so high, this new guy better bring his A game! To commemorate, here are some of my favorite looks by the legend himself, Oscar de la Renta.
